Forgetting to charge a headlamp doesn't always leave time for a full refill. The BioLite Range 500 addresses that situation with a fast-charge feature, alongside a relatively light design and straightforward white and red modes.
A Short Charge Can Still Be Useful
BioLite says eight minutes of charging can add an hour on high under its stated conditions. I'd treat that as a manufacturer claim to compare, not a reason to leave charging until the last moment every time. The listed full-charge time is eighty minutes, using the appropriate source.
- High output: 500 lumens.
- Low output: 1.5 lumens.
- Weight: 2.6 ounces, or 75 grams.
- Battery: 1,634mAh, USB-C charging.
The Lower Settings Have Their Own Value
For reading something close by, 500 lumens may be more than you want. Dimming lets the light suit the task. Red flood and red strobe add alternatives, while brightness memory means a chosen setting can be more convenient to return to.
I'd also check the lock function before putting it in a bag. Preventing accidental activation helps preserve the charge you deliberately put into it.
Fit and Wet-Weather Use
The four-position tilt gives you a way to aim at your hands without constantly looking down. The moisture-wicking band is another feature I'd assess during wear rather than judge from a photograph. Comfort depends on the individual head and the length of use.
An IP67 rating is listed, including a defined temporary-immersion condition. That doesn't remove the need to follow charging-port care and drying instructions.
This review uses published specifications. I'd compare the Range 500 for regular outdoor or household use where light weight, red light, and quick charging are useful together. If you don't need the extra output or red modes, another model in the Range family may cover the job more simply.
