Someone who likes the Garberg idea may still want more blade length. The Morakniv Garberg Grand (S) is the larger model to compare, and that increase in size should be something you actually want.
The Grand Has More Working Blade
Morakniv specifies a 142 mm blade, 3.2 mm thick, in 14C28N stainless steel. It uses full-tang construction and a Scandi grind. A leather sheath is part of the listed package.
- Blade length: 142 mm.
- Thickness: 3.2 mm.
- Steel: 14C28N stainless.
- Carry: Leather sheath.
More Reach Changes the Handling
Extra blade can be welcome for some wood-processing tasks. It also places more knife beyond your hand during close work. I would compare the regular Garberg with the Grand around the cuts I make most often.
The leather sheath deserves its own care plan after damp conditions. A good outdoor tool includes the carrying equipment, not only the blade.
I would also compare where a longer sheath sits while bending or sitting. A knife can feel comfortable standing at a work area and less convenient once you are back in a vehicle. That is especially relevant if the Grand is intended to stay with a camp load all day instead of coming out only for a dedicated wood-working session.
A Clear Upgrade in Size, Not an Automatic Upgrade for Everyone
This model is most appealing for a buyer already comfortable with a larger fixed blade. A small camp knife and separate saw may still be the more manageable combination for another person.
I would choose the Grand if its longer working edge fills a real gap. If the ordinary Garberg already feels like enough knife, added size is not a benefit by itself. The useful comparison is the job and hand position, not which model sounds more substantial.
